James Moore

Rebuilt his own knees, back and shoulder. Now he makes the first day simple.

About James

James came to training through his own injuries, and he remembers exactly what the first day in a gym feels like.

James has come back from two torn menisci, a fractured lower back, a fractured elbow and a shoulder impingement. Doctors and physical therapists handed him exercises that never fixed the problem, so he studied the science himself, built his own strength and mobility work, and trains pain free today.

He joined Redefine because it treats fitness as medicine: consistent hours with the same clients, a Registered Dietitian on the plan, and a program built around your injuries, your health history and your life outside the studio, not just how you look.

Who James works best with

First timers who are intimidated by the gym. He has been in their shoes, so he breaks training down into something simple and makes sure nobody feels overwhelmed on day one.

A win James is proud of

A client came in with shoulder pain and could not raise her arm overhead. Strength work through every range of motion, plus band mobility every session, got her arm above her head and kept it there.

What most people get wrong

Most trainers stop learning the day they get certified. James reads the research, follows the science and keeps studying, because anyone in this field should know more this year than they did last year.

In James’s words

“The gym can be a scary place at the start. My job is to be the guide who makes it simple and makes you feel welcome.”

“Pain free first. Then strong. Nobody should feel lost on day one.”
The Standard

What it takes to coach at Redefine

Nobody trains clients at Redefine Fitness without passing a screening test, an in-person skill practical, and a written exam just to get hired, then testing out of a 30-day onboarding against our 100-page Training Master Guide. Every Thursday from 1-2 PM we close both gyms so the entire staff trains together, and every specialist sits annual exams on a tiered education ladder. We also created a New York State Department of Labor approved Fitness Specialist apprenticeship. Fitness is medicine, and this is what the standard behind it looks like.
