Why it costs more than a stretch franchise. Your stretch is delivered by an exam-tested Fitness Specialist from the same education system as our training floor: a screening test, a skill practical, a written exam and a 30 day onboarding against our Training Master Guide, plus weekly all-staff education. We created a New York State Department of Labor approved fitness apprenticeship. So the person stretching you understands how a replaced hip moves and where not to push.

What the research shows

Regular sauna use is associated with better cardiovascular markers in large cohort studies. The strongest evidence is for traditional Finnish sauna; infrared studies are smaller. We tell you both. Sauna does not treat, cure or prevent any condition.

2,315 men, 20 year follow up

Men using a sauna 4 to 7 times a week had a lower rate of fatal cardiovascular events than once a week users. Observational, men only, traditional sauna: association, not cause.

Laukkanen et al., JAMA Internal Medicine, 2015.

1,688 men and women

Frequent sauna bathing was associated with lower cardiovascular mortality in both sexes over a median 15 years. Still observational.

Laukkanen et al., BMC Medicine, 2018.

40 studies, 3,855 participants

Regular dry sauna use showed the most consistent benefit for cardiovascular and metabolic markers, with a favorable safety profile in healthy adults. Most studies were small; the authors call for larger trials.

Hussain and Cohen, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2018.

Questions

Do I need a membership?

No. Stretching and sauna are open to everyone. Current clients can also add them to their plan; ask your Fitness Specialist so you are not charged twice. Elite includes unlimited sauna.

Where are they?

Assisted stretching runs at both studios, Mount Sinai (271 Route 25A) and Stony Brook (1113 North Country Road). The infrared sauna is at Mount Sinai only.

How do I book after I buy?

Checkout is through Mindbody. Then book your time in the Redefine app or call (631) 250-6569.

Can two people share the sauna?

The cabin seats two, but we book it for one person at a time so the room is private. Two people can buy two back to back slots.

Is the sauna safe for me?

For most healthy adults, yes. Heart conditions, pregnancy, low blood pressure and some medications change the answer. Talk to your physician and tell us on the screening form.

How is this different from StretchLab or Stretch Zone?

Assisted stretching helps people and we are glad the category exists. The difference is who does the work and what it connects to: an exam-tested Fitness Specialist, by appointment on a quiet floor, connected to movement screening and a full training floor when you are ready.
