Post-op and chronic-pain rebuilds, solved like a puzzle.

About Kyle

Kyle leads the Stony Brook floor and specializes in chronic pain and post-op recovery.

Kyle found training during a rough patch, working to better himself physically and mentally, and came away fascinated by how the body actually works and the effect movement has on people’s lives. He has managed asthma his whole life by staying active, so when he says movement is part of the treatment, he means it from experience.

Before Redefine he spent two years as an aide at Island Sports Physical Therapy in Selden, working under physical therapist Tyler Roden and a full roster of PTs with patients from every background — and he brought all of it to the floor. He chose Redefine because it’s a group of people who genuinely care and take pride in educating their trainers; management, he says, gave him the building blocks to become a good one.

Who Kyle works best with

Clients in chronic pain or coming back from surgery — the work he finds most rewarding. He treats each case like a puzzle: finding where the pain is actually coming from, then working out what to strengthen and what to stretch to restore proper movement and function.

A win Kyle is proud of

One client came to him with chronic neck and back pain, walking with a cane through most of her day. Through slow, deliberate progressions in strength, mobility, and balance, she’s off the cane and moving through daily life with far less limitation and far less pain.

What most people get wrong

Too many trainers address symptoms in general terms, Kyle says, when they should be attacking the root cause with a plan built for the individual in front of them.

In Kyle’s words

“I like solving the puzzle — finding where the pain is really coming from, then figuring out exactly what needs to change to get you moving well again.”

“Attack the root cause, not the symptom. Every body is different, so every plan should be too.”
The Standard

What it takes to coach at Redefine

Nobody trains clients at Redefine Fitness without passing a screening test, an in-person skill practical, and a written exam just to get hired, then testing out of a 30-day onboarding against our 100-page Training Master Guide. Every Thursday from 1-2 PM we close both gyms so the entire staff trains together, and every specialist sits annual exams on a tiered education ladder. We also created a New York State Department of Labor approved Fitness Specialist apprenticeship. Fitness is medicine, and this is what the standard behind it looks like.
