Tyler Kollar

The gym got him through. Now he does that for others.

About Tyler

Tyler leads the Mount Sinai floor and coaches for the long game.

Tyler grew up playing sports, and leaned on the gym through years of mental-health struggles — it got him through, and it’s the reason he does this work now.

He believes, plainly, that fitness is medicine, and that training is for everybody — not just athletes. He runs the Mount Sinai floor on exactly that idea.

Who Tyler works best with

People intimidated by the gym, and anyone simply looking to feel better again.

A win Tyler is proud of

One of his clients walked down a full flight of stairs on their own for the first time in years, after an old injury had taken that away.

What most people get wrong

That training is only for the fit or the athletic. Tyler’s real goal with a client is the opposite of clingy — he wants them to learn fitness and come to love it, to the point they no longer need him.

In Tyler’s words

“Training is for everybody. My goal is for you to love it so much that, eventually, you don’t need me.”

“Fitness is medicine, and it’s for everybody.”
The Standard

What it takes to coach at Redefine

Nobody trains clients at Redefine Fitness without passing a screening test, an in-person skill practical, and a written exam just to get hired, then testing out of a 30-day onboarding against our 100-page Training Master Guide. Every Thursday from 1-2 PM we close both gyms so the entire staff trains together, and every specialist sits annual exams on a tiered education ladder. We also created a New York State Department of Labor approved Fitness Specialist apprenticeship. Fitness is medicine, and this is what the standard behind it looks like.
